Google AI research center in India

At its annual event ” Google for India” in Capital City New Delhi, Google announced the opening of it’s AI Research Center in Bangalore.

The Newly announced AI Research center will be headed by Dr. Manish Gupta ( LinkedIn , IIITB Faculty), who is an ACM Fellow and Infosys Founder Chair Professor at IIIT Bangalore. Dr. Manish holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. He has co-authored about 75 papers, with more than 7,000 citations in Google Scholar (and an h-index of 45) in the areas of high-performance computing, compilers, and virtual machine optimizations, and has been granted 19 US patents.

Google Research India will focus on two major areas:

  • Researching and developing Advance computer science fundamentals and AI research by partnering with the research community across the country.
  • Applying the outcome of the research to tackle big problems in fields like healthcare, agriculture, and education while also using it to make apps and services used by billions of people more helpful. 

Google also appointed Professor Dr. Milind Tambe from Harward Unversity as Director of AI for social good.

Dr. Tambe main focus will be on building research programs focusing on the social betterment of India which will include solving problem and challenges in sectors like healthcare, agriculture, and education.

Opening of Google AI research Centre in India has also created new job opportunities for Scientist, Professors, Young graduates who are working or are passionate in the field of AI and Machine learning.
